XLD agar is a versatile selective growth medium that can be used to isolate Salmonella and Shigella bacteria from a variety of samples, including clinical specimens and food products. It is also recommended for the identification of Enterobacteriaceae and for microbiological testing of foods, water, and dairy products. The unique formulation of XLD agar inhibits the growth of other organisms, allowing Salmonella and Shigella colonies to be easily identified. XLD agar is one of the media used in the USP & EP Microbial Limit Tests, a standard set of tests used to assess the microbiological safety of products.
